The AAMC has developed the Report on Residents, an insightful collection of information about upcoming and current residents, which is updated annually. The Report on Residents is populated with data from multiple sources available to the AAMC, including: the Matriculating Student Questionnaire, the Medical School Graduation Questionnaire, Graduate Medical Education (GME) Track, and the Faculty Roster. The Report on Residents is delivered online, through a series of tables and associated information.

Key findings in the 2016 report include:
  • 16.6% of residents who completed training from 2006 through 2015 currently hold a full-time faculty appointment at a U.S. MD-granting medical school.
  • MCAT and USMLE scores can vary substantially across specialties for entering residents.
  • 23.9% of individuals who completed residency between 2006 and 2015 are practicing in Medically Underserved areas, as of 2015.
Organized by progression through the education process, the Report on Residents data can be helpful to many audiences, including current medical students, prospective residents, medical school faculty, GME program directors, and state policy analysts.
